Because when Love bites, it’s both salty and sweet!
“Love Bark” is the same as traditional, “Peppermint Bark” (minus the peppermint). The wildly, popular peppermint bark is both enjoyed and given as gifts during the winter holidays. Love often times can really have a bite- meaning sometimes love can disappoint! So, we decided to put the sweetness back into love by making sure that every bite you take, never disappoints!
Serving Size: 2 1/2-3 cups when broken.
Total Prep Time: 1 hour
Note: it is important to work fast while working with melted chocolate as it will harden quickly.
Ingredients
- 2 Bags of melting wafers, white chocolate by Ghirardelli
- Assorted valentine sprinkles
- Sea salt flakes
- Cookie sheet
- Wax paper
- Red and blue food coloring
- 3 small bowls
- small rubber spatula
Directions
1.) Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.
2.) Melt chocolates in the three separate bowls. As soon as all the wafers have completely melted, you will work very quickly to create your desired colors for each bowl of chocolate.
Remember food coloring is very concentrated so just a single drop goes a very long way.
- 1 drop red = light pink
- The more red drops, the darker your pink will become.
- 2 drops red + 1 drop blue = lavender
- Equal drops of red and blue will create a true purple
You can continue to add drops according to how dark you would like your colors. You do want to make sure that there is a contrast between your three colors, light pink, medium pink and a lavender are the best pics.
3.) As you are working quickly, as soon as your chocolate has become the color desired, pour the different colors on to different sections of the wax paper covered cookie sheet.
4.) With The back of a spoon, spread the chocolate evenly to cover the entire tray.
5.) With a knife, swirl around the tray in different directions to create a “marble effect.”
6.) Cover chocolate with valentine sprinkles then shake sea salt flakes generously over the top.
7.) Stick it in the refrigerator (or freezer) for about 30 minutes to harden.
8.) Break into small bite-size pieces and store in an airtight container. Perfect for a little dessert platter for Valentine’s Day or packaging in a tin box as a gift!
Fun Fact
“Love Bark” is exactly like the traditional “Peppermint Bark” made during the holidays except for the fact that we use white chocolate only and exclude the peppermint! Instead, we cover the shades of pink and purple “Love Bark” with lots of gaudy valentine-inspired sprinkles!
